ST. DAVID – Joseph Francois Cyr Sr., 75, passed away Nov. 19, 2006, at a Madawaska nursing home after a long illness. He was born July 11, 1931, in St. David, the son of Henri V. and Agnes (Ouellette) Cyr. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant after two tours of duty. He then worked at Fraser Papers for 28 years. Joe was known for his love of the land and his ability to grow vegetables and fruits. He also was quite a raconteur, keeping his audiences regaled with hunting and fishing tales. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to bring and teach people how to hunt and fish. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gizelle (Perrault) Cyr of St. David; five sons, Joseph Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Nashua, N.H., Michael R. and his friend, Brenda Levesque, of Winslow, Paul of St. Agatha, Larry of Bangor and Dean and his wife, Pauline, of Edmundston, New Brunswick; one loving daughter, Helen and her friend, Mel Theriault, of St. David; two sisters, Edith Levesque and her husband, Ernie, of St. David and Ferdinande Bernard of Lewiston; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one daughter, Kathline; three brothers, Thomas, Maurice and Joseph H. “Ti-Joe”; and one sister, Carolyn Corriveau. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. David Church. Friends and relatives may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of services at the Daigle Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. David Cemetery.
