LAMOINE – Joseph H. Lear Jr., 76, died Jan. 21, 2004, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born July 13, 1927, in Bar Harbor, the son of Inez M. (King) and Joseph H. Lear Sr. “Joe” was the harbormaster at Ellsworth for several years. He also enjoyed his personal time on the water in his boat. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the Pacific, was discharged and spent the rest of his career in the U.S. Air Force. Joe was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He also was a member of the Lamoine Baptist Church, the East Lamoine Cemetery Association, and the Lamoine Historical Society. Joe also was Treasurer of the Old Maine Cemetery Association, which catalogued all the cemeteries of the State. He also was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1992. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Billie; two daughters, Vickie Ann Corbin and her husband, James, of Coldspring, Texas, and Alice Maye Dow and her husband, Jeff, of Ellsworth; two sisters, Henrietta Jackson and her husband, Kenneth, of Portland and Edna Coyne of Lamoine; four grandchildren, Lydia Marie and Noah James Corbin and Lacie Anne and Cameron Jeffrey Dow. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-6 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, with the Rev. David Henry officiating. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
