CHERRYFIELD – Joseph Moloney, 92, died June 27, 2004, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Oct. 28, 1911, in Rutland, Vt., the son of Thomas W. and Annie J. (Gooley) Moloney. He attended public schools in Rutland, Clark Preparatory School and Colgate University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa PSI Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Mediterranean area. A resident of Cherryfield since 1947, he was a self-employed independent insurance adjuster. He was a former member of the Down East Community Hospital Board in Machias, Cherryfield Historical Society, Sorrento Scientific Society, Ark Animal Shelter and Atlantic Salmon Society. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn (Murphy) Moloney in 1990; by four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by several nieces and nephews; close friends and caregivers, Fred and Pam Kneeland of Cherryfield; and his cat, Tige. At Mr. Moloney’s request there will be no funeral service. Cremation arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Milbridge.
