KENDUSKEAG – Perley K. Delano Sr., 76, died June 29, 2004, sur-rounded by his loving family at his home in Kenduskeag. He was born April 26, 1928, in Mexico, the son of Dura Roosevelt and Mildred C. (Chamberlain) Delano. Perley served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II stationed in Italy. He was an honorary member of the American Legion in Peru, ME. Perley was a member at Garland Grange No. 76, and a member of the State and National Grange. He was also a member of the Sons of the Union, Veterans of the Civil War. Perley loved the outdoors, building and working with his hands. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading about history. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Charlotte A. (Dickey) Delano; two sons, Perley Delano III and wife, Kelly, of Glenburn, Glenn Delano and wife, Cheryl, of Medway; two daughters, Wanda Taylor and husband, Roger, of Kenduskeag, Penni Hill and husband, Nick, of Corinth; three brothers, D.R. Delano Jr. of McCook, Neb., Clinton Delano of Peru, Gordon Delano of Paris; two sisters, Dorothy Dickey of East Millinocket, Marion Timberlake of Newport; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Arlene and George Dickey; a brother, Lawrence Delano; and two children, Daniel Delano and Valerie Delano. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at the United Baptist Church of Corinth, 331 Main St., Corinth, with Pastor Kirk Mellen officiating. Interment will be at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church vestry following the service.
