JOSEPH SCOTT MCPIKE MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Joseph Scott McPike, 9, enjoyed the weekend laughing and swimming at the beach before a tragic highway accident claimed his life Memorial Day, May 29, 2006, only months before his 10th birthday. He was born Aug. 30, 1996, in Atlanta, Ga. Joseph was an active, friendly fourth grader at Mooresville Intermediate School, who was deeply connected to nature and loved animals. Blessed with a vivid imagination, he was most content spending hours creating his own special places and adventures. He cared for a grand assortment of pets including, two dogs, two cats, two Chinese toads, a green anole and a guinea pig. Joseph was especially talented in art, a gifted illustrator and painter. He loved to make people laugh and was sure to leave you with a smile and a piece of his artwork if you were lucky. Joseph is survived by his parents, Joel Charles McPike and Linda Saturno McPike of Mooresville, N.C.; paternal grandmother, Lillian McPike of Veazie; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Saturno of Morganton, N.C.; paternal uncles, Alden McPike of Bangor, Steve McPike of Gray; paternal aunt, Nadine McPike of Brewer; maternal uncles and aunt, Nick Saturno, Luciano Saturno, Jimmy York and Doris Feimster of Morganton, N.C. Joseph is now in the loving embrace of both grandfathers, Clayton McPike and Nicola S. Saturno; and first cousins, Peter and Scott McDowell. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Therese Catholic Church followed by a reception in the Community Life Center.
