BUCKSPORT – Joseph Van Lue Mills, 94, died Feb. 2, 2004, at his home in Bucksport. He was born April 10, 1909, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of Edward Beasley and Sarah May (Cox) Mills. He served as Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield, Conn., and was a member of the Elm St. Congregational Church, Bucksport. He sang in the choir at both churches. He was employed by Getty Oil, Bridgeport, Conn., for many years, retiring in 1969 as plant manager. He was a member of the Felicity Masonic Lodge No. 19 AF&AM, Bucksport, King Soloman’s Council No. 1, Belfast, and the Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor. Joe is survived by his son, Fred V. Mills and wife, Kathleen, of Bucksport; two granddaughters, Christine Mills and husband, Jeff Desotelle, of Monterey, Calif., and Kimberly A. Mills of Bucksport; one sister, Marion Ethel Mills of Shelton, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Elsie M. (Lunt) Mills, in 1992; four sisters, Alice Mills Morrow, Vira Elizabeth Mills, Edna Gertrude Mills and Mona Clayton. A graveside memorial service will be held at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport, in the spring.
