STEUBEN – Joyce C. West, 75, wife of the late Thomas B. West, died Friday, April 8, 2005, at a Bar Harbor hospital, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 5, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the daughter of Arthur C. and Kathleen M. (Griffin) Bond. Joyce moved to the Steuben area in the mid 1970s from the Portland area, and worked for several years at Jasper Wyman and Sons in Cherryfield, and then worked at Stinson’s Seafood in Prospect Harbor for the past 17 years. She was a volunteer for the W.H.C.A. for many years, and was recipient of several awards for her volunteer work with that organization. Joyce was also a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, and Alcyone Chapter No. 71, O.E.S. in Milbridge. She is survived by a son, Hosea Carpenter and his wife, Penny Cary, of Saco; four stepsons, Carroll West and his wife, Eleanor, Paul and his wife, Pauline and David and his wife, Lynne, all of Steuben, and James and his wife, Deanna, of Cherryfield; three grandchildren, Karen Carpenter of Miami, Fla., Corey Carpenter of Raymond, and Kim Carpenter of Tampa, Fla.; eight stepgrandchildren, 13 great-stepgrandchildren; her feline friend, Tigger; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to visit with the family 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 12 p.m. Interment will be at the Steuben Village Cemetery, Steuben. Gifts in memory of Joyce may be sent to the Building Fund at the Mt.
