BROOKS – Joyce Ellis Schwartz, 70, passed away Feb. 17, 2007, at Harbor Hill, Belfast, after several years in the Alzheimer’s unit. She was born May 9, 1936, in Brooks, to Galena Ames and Alfred Ellis. She graduated from Morse Memorial High School in 1954. Joyce excelled in basketball, prize speaking and drama. After graduation, she was employed by the naval department, Washington, D.C., where she met her husband, Jefferson W. Schwartz, a Korean veteran from Baytown, Texas. They spent many of their 50 years of marriage in Texas and Virginia. Joyce worked as a secretary for Jeff in his insurance business and was a devoted wife and mother to their three sons. They returned to Brooks in 1990 on her doctors’ recommendation. Joyce was predeceased by her parents; husband, Jeff; grandson, Seth; and brother, Robert. She is survived by three sons, Greg of Virginia, Jeff and his wife, Michelle, of Nebraska, and Michael and his wife, Paige, of Texas; five grandchildren, Miranda, Jeffrey, Michael, Stephanie, and Samantha; her brother, Vaughn of Brooks; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by a special aunt, Emma Brown; a sister-in-law, Margaret Fleet; and a brother-in-law, Charles Schwartz and his wife, Geneva, of Fredericksburg, Texas. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at First Congregational Church, Brooks UCC. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
