MAPLETON – Joyce M. Howlett, 63, wife of the late Wayne A. Howlett, died Dec. 11, 2003, at her home following a long illness. She was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Washburn, the daughter of Miles and Helen (Carman) Easler. She had been employed at the Shelick Bag Co. and at Converse Shoe factory for many years. Joyce was a member of the D.A.V. Unit Smart-Ricker No. 10 and the Presque Isle Elks Auxiliary. Making crafts, camping, cooking and family gatherings were among her favorite things to do in life. Surviving her is a son, Michael Howlett of Mapleton; a daughter, Lesia (Howlett) Grooms and her husband, Frederic, of Marshall, Mich.; a son, Wayne Howlett Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Mapleton; her father, Miles Easler of Washburn; brothers, Alfred Easler and his wife, Dianne, of Presque Isle, Roger Easler of Terryville, Conn., Arthur Easler, Gerald Easler, Harold Easler, Dale Easler and his wife, Cindy, and Earl Scott Easler, all of Washburn; sisters, Lavina (Easler) Corey and her husband, Clayton, of Washburn, Janice (Easler) Brooks and her husband, Tommy, of Abilene, Texas, and Mary Easler and Beth (Easler) Thibodeau, both of Washburn, and Margaret (Easler) Hartsgrove and her husband, Theren, of Crouseville; grandchildren, Jennifer Howlett, Heidi Howlett, Katalin Grooms and Kyle Grooms; and great-grandchildren, Evan and Cameron Howlett; special sisters-in-law, Rowena Whitt, Pat Howlett and Doris Worthington; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her mother, Helen (Carman) Easler; and a brother, Willard Easler. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Kevin Kierstead officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. A spring interment will be in the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle.
