SURRY – June E. Smith, 82, died June 5, 2006, at her residence. She was born June 14, 1923, in Ellsworth Falls, the daughter of Walter and Alice (Brooks) Grindle. June worked at the Hardwood Factory on State Street in Ellsworth for many years. She was a member of the Surry Methodist Church and Women’s Auxiliary at Courtland Rehab and Living Center. She is survived by nieces, Sandra DeWitt and Judy Sanborn, both of Ellsworth and Sharon Oliver of Missouri. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Smith; son, Mark; sister, Edith Paquette; and a nephew, Faye Ashmore. Calling hours will be held 2-3 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Interment will be at North Bend Cemetery, Surry. At June’s request, gifts in her memory may be made to the Surry Methodist Church, P.O. Box 98, Surry, ME 04684.
