June served as an assessor for the town of Gouldsboro for six years. She was an avid beano player. She enjoyed crocheting and any type of card or board game. June enjoyed living on the water watching the lobster fishermen going about their daily routine, the ducks swimming at the mouth of the brook, seals resting on the float in the bay and the daily rise and fall of the tides. She is survived by a daughter, Paula Colwell, and her husband, Charles, of Prospect Harbor; a grandson, Bowen Colwell and his girlfriend, Jennifer Young, of Harrington; a granddaughter, Tonya Colwell of Hancock; a sister, Ruth Leighton, and her husband, Alton, of Gouldsboro Point; two sisters-in-law, Mabel Densmore of Gouldsboro Point and Edna Reynolds of Steuben; several devoted cousins, and a very special friend, April Daigle of Hancock, whom she thought of as a granddaughter. June was predeceased by her husband, David in 2003; an infant son, Paul David in 1943; and a great-grandson, “B.J.” Colwell in 1995. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home in Milbridge with the Rev. Clive Meidahl and June’s cousin, the Rev. Floyd Flynn officiating. Interment will take place in the spring in the Shaw Cemetery at Gouldsboro Point. A portion of June’s ashes will be co-mingled with the ashes of her beloved husband of 65 years, the love of her life, and scattered across the waters in front of their home on Gouldsboro Bay. Please omit flowers. Those wishing to honor June’s memory may send contributions to the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital Building Fund, care of Development office, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
