GARLAND – Karl W. Eldridge, 78, died Aug. 15, 2006, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born July 20, 1928, in Lykens, Pa., a son of Raymond and Hattie (Smith) Eldridge. He graduated from Forest Hills High School in Queens, N.Y., Class of 1946. Karl was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and the Korean War. He was a longtime member and chief of Wading River Fire Department. Karl and his wife, Lorraine, moved to Garland 24 years ago to pursue an easier life style; where he owned and operated Karl’s Appliance Service. He enjoyed woodworking and model trains. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lorraine of Garland; a son, Michael and wife, Marcella Eldridge, of Exeter; a daughter, Marge Foy and her partner, George Hicks, of Sebec; four grandchildren, Janet, Christine, Daniel and Lisa; and a great-granddaughter, Autumn. There will be no visitation. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the chapel of the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, new cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta, with burial after the service.
