BROOKS – Kathleen C. Littlefield passed away peacefully Friday, May 16, 2008, surrounded by her family at Harbor Hill, Belfast. She was born April 3, 1922, in Brooks, the daughter of Lawrence E. and Myrtle L. (Hall) Carr. She attended Brooks schools and was a 1940 graduate of Morse Memorial High School. Kathleen enjoyed family and friends, and days at the family cottage on Swan Lake. Kaye, as she was known, enjoyed socializing and was known for her wit. She was an avid reader and great cook, and preserved many items from her husband’s large garden for future use. She loved playing cards, especially Bridge and a family game called “Dirty Dog,” which she “said” she never won. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were taught from a young age to play the game. Kathleen was a member of Brooks Evening Extension, Morse Memorial PTO, Frederick Ritchie Grange, Jolly Neighbors Senior Citizens, Wednesday Morning Weigh-In, Brooks Congregational Church and its Women’s Fellowship and Country View Golf Club. She volunteered as a Grey Lady, for RSVP, the Boosters 4th of July celebration and as a cook for many benefits at the Varney. She also worked at the polls and Black and Gay Canning Co. In 1986 she and her husband were honored for their service to the community by the Booster Club. She was predeceased by her parents. Kathleen is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, George H. Littlefield of Brooks; children, Regina Oliver and husband, Herbert, of Waterville, Larry Littlefield of Ogunquit, Stephen Littlefield and significant other, April Newman, of Brooks, Mary Beth Taylor and husband, Eddie, of Stuart, Fla., Scott Littlefield of Brooks and Sam Littlefield of Brooks; sister, Margaret Sullivan of Beverly, Mass.; sisters-in-law, June Mosley of Portland and Jean Littlefield of Canada. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Bethany Oliver, Megan Winther and husband, Asbjorn, Kyle Oliver and wife, Nancy, Shane Littlefield and wife, Tammy, Shandy Bittle and husband, Charley; great-grandchildren, Emma Winther, Adam Littlefield, Cameron Littlefield, Tennyson Martin, Katerena Taylor, Kathleen Bittle, Lillian Bittle; many nieces and nephews; and her three cats, Rascal, Abby and Tommy. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staffs at Harbor Hill, Seaport Family Practice and Waldo County Hospital for their care of our wife/mother and the support of the family. We appreciate also the many friends who visited her in recent weeks; it meant a lot to Kaye. Family and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Brooks Congregational Church. A reception will be after at the Varney Building, Brooks.
