BIRCH HARBOR – Kay Chipman, 78, died Jan. 31, 2004, at a Bangor hospital following a long illness. She was born March 29, 1925, at South Gouldsboro, the daughter of Clarence and Clara (Leighton) Lewis. She was noted for her flower gardens and enjoyed her walks with her dog, Spot. Kay loved company, if her house was full she was happy. The time she spent with her family and friends always meant the most to her. It made no difference the circumstances, Kay loved people and made many friends during her illness and while at dialysis. Kay was a 50-year member of Eastern Star at the Ruby Chapter of the O.E.S. in Winter Harbor and later the Alcyone Chapter O.E.S. in Milbridge. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leamon Chipman; her daughter, Barbara and her husband, Dana Rice Sr.; her son, John L. Chipman Sr. and his wife, Gerry, all of Birch Harbor; seven grandchildren, Lamont, Mona, Debbie, Fred, Laurie, John Jr. and Dana Jr.; eight great-grandchildren, Amber, Jessica, Heather, Cassie, Brennon, Zachary, Tyler and Hunter; two sisters, Velma Rogers and her husband, Sumner, of Hampden, and Edna Kief of Brewer; many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her dog, Spot. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Arthur Reed and Ray Lewis; and one sister, Marjorie Wright. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, with Owen Beal officiating. Internment will be at the Birch Harbor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Maine Dialysis, Short St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
