LUBEC – Kees Alexander Bueters, 78, died Jan. 5, 2006, in Bangor. He was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was raised in the Dutch East Indies including Sumatra and Java. Coming to the United States at the age of 11, he graduated from Great Neck High School, Long Island, N.Y. He was a World War II veteran. He had degrees in engineering, physics and mathematics from Fairleigh Dickenson University and the University of Hartford. After graduating from the Oak Ridge School of Nuclear Reactors, he became a pioneer in nuclear energy, theory and research. As a leader in his field, he was instrumental in the design of nuclear reactor cores for power plants. As a nuclear physicist he was a guest lecturer at universities and corporations worldwide. He was also an avid hunter and gun enthusiast. After retiring to Maine he devoted many years to serviing the Lubec consolidated school. He is survived by his daughter, Roxanne Cirrincione and grandson, Justin. A memorial service for special friends will be held in the spring.
