BREWER – Kempton H. Humphrey, 88, died March 12, 2008. He was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Cari-bou, the son of Garnett W. and Cora (Brown) Humphrey. At the age of 4 he moved to Brewer, where he lived for most of his life. Kempton graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1938 and Burdett College, Boston, Class of 1940. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He returned to Brewer, where he married Leone “Dolly” Walls later that year. He was employed with Coca-Cola for 34 years and was a member of Brewer Kiwanis Club for 45 years, serving as president from 1981 to 1982. After retiring he continued to enjoy golfing and going to camp to fish on East Grand Lake. He later began walking with “The Morning Walkers” at the Brewer auditorium and having coffee with the group at Brewer McDonalds. Surviving are his one daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Steve Sargent of Brewer; one granddaughter, Jennifer Sargent of New York City; a sister-in-law, Helen DeWitt and her husband, Neal, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a close companion and friend, Thelma Woodhead of Brewer; a niece and several nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dolly in 1993; and three siblings, Doris Knowles, Neal Humphrey and Rosella Priest. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Brewer Rehabilitation and Living Center for the loving care given Kempton. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, minister of First Congregational Church, Brewer, officiating. Relatives and fri-ends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith, Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., after the service. Spring interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
