MACHIAS – Kenneth B. Hatt passed away Aug. 19, 2004, at his home. He was born Jan. 9, 1914, in Machias, the son of Reginald and Lenora Hatt. He was a graduate of Machias High School, Class of 1931. He was employed by D.W. Small & Sons Oil Company, Getty Oil Co. and R.H. Foster, Inc. for a total of 50 years. He was also employed by W.M.C.S. Radio Station in Public Relations. He retired in 1991. He was a member of the Centre Street Congregational Church, having served on many committees; also a member of the Howard Lodge #91 AF & AM of Machias, Past High Priest of Washington Royal Arch Chapter No. 16 of Machias; St. Elmo Commandery No. 18 of Machias; Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor, Past Patron of Machias Chapter No. 83 Order of the Eastern Star; Past President of Machias Rotary Club where he was a member for 36 years. He received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. He served on the Board of Selectmen for six years for the town of Machias and was a member of Machias Valley Airport Committee for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Frances (Pottle) Hatt; a daughter, Carole Ann Johnson; a grandson, Kenneth Johnson; brothers-in-law, Bud Pottle and wife, Maxine, Cecil Pottle and wife, Lorraine, Dale Pottle and wife, Muriel, Donald Hatt and wife, Helen, Brenda and Val Deschene and their families. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, August 27 at the Machias Valley Baptist Church with Pastor George Henderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Porter Memorial Library, 52 Court St., Machias, ME 04654 or to the American Cancer Society of Maine, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
