LINCOLNVILLE – Kenneth E. Boody, 79, died Monday, July 4, 2005, at Waldo County General Hospital after a brief illness. Born Aug. 25, 1925, in Palmyra, he was youngest of eight children of Jesse and Mertie Milliken Boody. He attended Ripley schools and later worked on his family’s farm. April 17, 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy and after basic training, served as Seaman First Class aboard the USS Toucan and USS Dextrous. Discharged from active duty, Feb. 13, 1946, he returned to Maine and was employed for a time at Bath Iron Works. He continued service to his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. For more than 30 years, he was employed at the Thomaston Cement Plant, where at the time of his retirement in 1982, he worked as a crane operator. At that same time, with his first wife he operated a farm several years, raising chickens and cattle. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, playing cribbage and poker. He particularly enjoyed camping at Spencer Bay on Moosehead Lake, Greenville, where he married Alice Merrifield, June 3, 2000. He cherished a longtime special friendship with neighbors Robert and Janet Richards, as well as the many friendships he made while camping. He was a member of the Amity Lodge of Masons No. 6, Rockport. Mr. Boody was pre-deceased by his first wife, Madonna Wentworth Boody, May 8, 1990; and a son, George E. Boody, in August of 1969. In addition to his wife, Alice, he is survived by two sons, Wayne T. Boody of Bangor, Kenneth A. Boody of Lincolnville; one daughter, Sharon Deane and her husband, Jimmy; one brother, Norman Boody of Corinna; five stepsons, Fred Merrifield, Larry Merrifield and his wife, Tina, Randy Merrifield and his wife, Claudia, all of Hope, Kenny A. Merrifield, Craig Merrifield, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Adam, Amanda and Crystal; several stepgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A service in celebration of Mr. Boody’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2005, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. The Reverend Michelle Grube will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Camden, with a committal service conducted by officers of Amity Lodge of Masons.
