MILLINOCKET – Kenneth Earl Smith, 77, departed this life Jan. 7, 2004, at the home of his daughter in Millinocket. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Navy Seabee on Okinawa. Following his Honorable Discharge from the service, Mr. Smith was a self-employed barber for many years in Bangor. He was a musician from an early age, and performed with various music groups in this area and Rhode Island. He was also a violinmaker and, in later years, a self-employed carpenter. He is survived by his three daughters, Virginia Bobb and husband, Bill, of Westbrook, Shirley Snider and husband, John, of Millinocket, and Katherine McLaughlin and husband, Rex, of Westbrook; one son, Kenneth W. Smith and wife, Susan, of Westbrook; two brothers, Laurel E. Smith of Fruitland Park, Fla. and Clarence E. Smith of Portland, Conn.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his fianc‚e, Dorothy Stearns of Danielson, Conn.; special friends, Sarah Stearns and William Pelletier; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. He is also survived by his former wife, Thelma (Corson) White. He was predeceased by one son, Harvey Allen Smith, and one brother, Ernest C. Smith. Services will be held at a later date.
