LUBEC – The Lord has taken Thyra home on this day of Jan. 7, 2004. She was born at Pawtucket, R.I. Dec. 17, 1918, the daughter of Watson and Esther (Frick) Wormell. She married her husband, Carleton Cheney Sr. on Oct. 13, 1938. She enjoyed all sports, her favorite being the Boston Red Sox. She was a wonderful wife and mother and she will be missed by her whole family and friends. She is survived by her husband, five daughters, Lee Green and Maureen Kelley of Lubec, Patricia Robertson of Holden, Peggy Lanoue of Rapid City, S.D. and Jeri Malloch of Bangor; three sons, Steve Cheney of Florida, Carleton Cheney Jr. of Alaska and Clifford Cheney of Charlotte; one sister, Audrey Knight and a brother-in-law, James Knight; 76 precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. She was predeceased by her parents, and a daughter, Nikki Ann Coggins. At her request there will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the Christian Temple Church, Lubec with Pastor Gary Look officiating. Interment will be at Hallett Cemetery, Lubec. There will be a gathering at Thyra’s home following the service. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Lubec Consolated School, Cheney Sports Fund, care of B. Case, 44 South St., Lubec, ME 04652. Arrangements are in the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
