HAMMOND – K. Eugene “Gene” McIver, 74, died March 12, 2004, at a local hospital after a long illness. He was born June 9, 1929, at Houlton, the son of Kenneth and Mary (Carpenter) McIver. Gene was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Ricker Classical Institute and Ricker College and attended the University of Maine at Orono. He served in the Army during the Korean War. After the war, Gene worked for the Department of Transportation for the State of Maine as the road commissioner for 35 years. He served on the school board for MSAD No. 29 for 35 years, the board for the Region Two-SAVE for 25 years, many of which he was chairman. He is survived by his wife, Iris McAfee (McLean) McIver of Hammond; five stepchildren, Vicky McKeen, Ted McAfee, both of Hammond, Pam McCue, Annette Wilson, both of Michigan, Barbara Oliver of Cary; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” McLean, Doris Botting, both of Hammond; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Clarance “Chum” McIver and Joseph McIver. Friends may call at the Dunn Funeral Home Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of departure for the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Eddy Morin celebrant.
