PLEASANT POINT – Kenneth Joseph Newell Sr., 70, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at a Calais hospital. Kenneth was born May 31, 1937, in Indian Township, son of the late Louis and Irene (Newell) Dana. Throughout the years, he worked as a logger, fisherman, and census director, and served as lieutenant governor for Pleasant Point. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, playing poker and Beano, and going to Fox Woods and Hollywood Slots. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Nicholas) Newell; a son, Kenneth Newell Jr.; two sisters, Phyllis Saunders and Martha Barstis; and two brothers, James Newell and Sopiel Dana. Surviving are his loving wife, Barbara (Smith) Newell; 12 children, Karen Lewey and her husband, James, Rhonda Homan and her husband, David, Katie Cling and her husband, Marvin, Marie Gabriel, David Francis III and his wife, Heather, Sugum Francis and his wife, Jill, Philomene Look, and Serge Newell, all of Pleasant Point, Perry Newell and his wife, Marlene, of Lincoln, Judith Smiley and her husband, Jeff, and Dana Newell, both of Indian Township, and his pride and joy, Augustus “Gus” Look Jr. of Pleasant Point; two sisters, Molly Parker and Eleanor Mitchell, both of Indian Township; four brothers, Robert Newell and his wife, Kathy, and Steve Newell and his wife, Audrey, both of Indian Township, Andrew Dana and his wife, Evelyn, and Andrew Moore, both of Pleasant Point; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his godchild, Linda Lola of Peter Dana Point; two special caretakers, Alice Tomah and Cindy Lewey; special friends, Dale Longfellow, Bob Georgantis, Roy Neptune, Sabattus Lewey, Mike Griffin and his brothers; and many other relatives and friends. Friends may call starting 1 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Monday at his home, 61 Bayview Drive, Pleasant Point. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday by Father Eugene Gaffey at St. Ann Church, Pleasant Point. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport.
