MARSHFIELD – Kenneth “Ken” P. Schoppee, 64, died tragically Aug. 29, 2007, as a result of an at-work accident. He was born Sept. 12, 1942, the son of Katherine (Reynolds) Schoppee and the late Julian C. Schoppee. Ken was named after his uncle, the late Kenneth P. Schoppee, who served as a rear gunner and was shot down during World War II. Ken was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on the USS Kitty Hawk for three years from 1960 to 1963. After serving in the Navy, Ken helped his father run Schoppee’s Dairy. He then ran his own trucking business, Ken Schoppee and Son Transport for more than 20 years. Ken also proudly worked for his son’s trucking business, Schoppee’s Transport. He was, at the time of his death, employed by Guptill’s Logging, East Machias and Schoppee’s Dairy, Holden. Ken will always be remembered as a strong and loving man devoted to his family. He loved riding his Harley Davidson and enjoyed fishing. Ken met his best friend and future wife, Marilyn L. Conlin, in 1960. Five years later, they wed and would be celebrating their 42nd year of marriage this year. In addition to his loving wife, Marilyn, Ken is survived by his children, daughter, Barbie Richardson and husband, Steve, of Machias, son, Jason Schoppee and wife, Angel, of Holden; grandchildren, Katie, Allie, Alyssa, Julie, Paige, Josh and Jayden; mother, Katherine Schoppee; one brother, Nathan Schoppee and wife, Gynell, of East Machias; aunt, Louise Moores of Bar Harbor; very special father and mother-in-law, Walter Conlin and Evelyn Conlin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ed and Candy Greenwood of Greene; brother-in-law, Howard Conlin of Jefferson, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Robert Carter and Aubrey Carter. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a son, who was stillborn on his birthday; and a daughter, Julie Conlin Schoppee. There will be a time of fellowship and visiting noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Machias Valley Baptist Church gymnasium. Immediately after the time of fellowship, a 1 p.m. service will be at the church officiated by Pastor Jeff Henderson. Burial, with military honors will be held after at Longfellow Cemetery.
