MATTAWAMKEAG – Kenneth M. Taylor passed away peacefully Sun-day, Aug. 5, 2007, surround-ed by his family at his daughter’s home in Winn. He was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Howland, the son of Pearle C. Chambers and Kenneth Taylor Sr. of Northeast Harbor. He attended grade schools in Mattawamkeag and Lincoln and attended South Portland High School. Kenneth learned the pipefitter/welder trade at the South Portland Shipyard for New England Ship Building Corp., at the age of 16. He served in the 29th Infantry Regiment in World War II and Army of Occupation in France and Germany in 1945-1946. Kenneth was a 50-year member of the Union Local No. 716 Pipefitters/Welders. He was employed by Stone & Webster, Sullivan & Merritt, Perry Willette and Wade/Searway and retired from Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, after 28 years of dedicated service as a pipefitter/welder in the steam plant. Dad belonged to several organizations, Pine Tree Lodge AF & AM No. 172, Mount Horeb Chapter 49 Royal Arch Masons, Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 95, VFW Ham McGinley Post No. 7409 and Maine Trapper’s Association. Dad loved trout and fly fishing at Coffeelos Pond with his family and friends. He tied his own super successful Coffeelos Killer Montana Fly. Dad was a master guide at Harry’s Lodge and his home at Halfway Camps. He was a fundraiser, scorekeeper and groundskeeper for the famous semi-pro Mattawamkeag Merchants in the 1960s, of which their ball field was named “Taylor Field” in his honor. He was a Chicago Cubs fan. In his retirement, Dad thoroughly enjoyed many family gatherings at “Toe of the Boot” on Moosehead Lake, the dogsled races at Big Wood Lake, Jackman; Pittsburgh, N.H., Mower Pond and family reunions at Northeast Harbor. He was predeceased by his sons, Kenneth Jr. and Kevin Taylor; father, Kenneth Taylor Sr. of Northeast Harbor; mother, Pearle Chambers Osgood; stepfather, Herbert Osgood, whom he loved dearly and considered one of the best; and his loving wife of 35 years, Ardella. He is survived by sisters, Sandra Porter, Donna and Bob Gibbs, Sue Barnes and Christy Cousins; by brothers, Robert and Marge Taylor and Timmy and Jeane Taylor; by daughters, Karen and Robert Morrison, Kathy and Steve Howard, Kelly and Brian Carle, Kendra Cyr and Barbie and Joey Fountaine; stepchildren, Connie and David Cullens, Frank Welch, Mike and Nancy Welch and Cathy and Dick Spaulding; 10 grandchildren, six great-grand-children; and two special cousins, Brenda Plummer and John Chambers. Many thanks to special friends, Honey Kelsey, Phyllis Vicaire, Charlotte York, Adrian Mason, Cannonball Speed, Dick Manzo, David Streams, David DeWitt, John Brown, Dick Lowell, Donald and his late father, Carlisle Smith. Kenneth hereby bequeaths his title of “King of Coffeelos” to David Streams. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Mattawamkeag Cemetery with the Honorable Henry L. Joy officiating. A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be held after the service at the home of his daughter, Karen, 8 Lee Road, Winn.
