PALMYRA – Launa (Bell) Niles, 82, passed away Oct. 7, 2006, after a long illness at Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. She was born Aug. 15, 1924, in New Brunswick, and was raised the daughter of Almon and Helen Bell. At a young age, Launa and her family moved to Mars Hill. She attended local schools and graduated from Aroostook Central Institute, Presque Isle. Launa married Kenneth E. Niles April 19, 1947, and soon after they moved to Palmyra where they raised their three daughters. Launa worked for a short time at Northeast Shoe and then retired from Edwards Co. Launa was a member of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband and five brothers. Launa is survived by her daughters, Nancy Derosier and her husband, Camille, of Palmyra, Connie Munster of Newport and Debbie Niles of Detroit; sisters-in-law, Mattie Niles and Dean Bell; grandchildren, Justin Derosier and his girlfriend, Tammy Mitchell, Sarah Derosier, Brett Munster and his fiance, Anika Howe and Brant Munster and his girlfriend, Allison Theriault; great-grandchild, Dakota Derosier; caregivers, Beulah Wyman and Verna Pease; family pets, Shadow and Fancy; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the funeral home. Burial at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta will be at a later date.
