JAVA, Va., and ORLAND Laura Elizabeth (Choate) Astbury, 81, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at Danville Regional Medical Center, Java, Va. Born Dec. 28, 1925, in Brooklin, she was the daughter of Thomas Choate and Deliska (Seger) Choate Allen. She married Arnold Astbury Sept. 21, 1945, who died Nov. 3, 1992. She loved working with wood, tending to her gardens and spending time at the ocean. She enjoyed reading. She moved to Virginia from Orland in 1990, still summering in Maine. Laura is survived by three daughters, Dawn Gray and husband, Harlan, of Penobscot, Debra Astbury of Java, Va., and Robin Astbury of Java, Va.; two sons, Arnold Astbury Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Orland and Kirby Astbury and his wife, Brenda, of Orrington; a daughter-in-law, Rozina Astbury of Orland; three sisters, Sylvia Schnirring of California, Charlotte Allen of Orland and Gloria Curtis of Monroe, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grand-children, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Arnold L. Astbury, Nov. 3, 1992; one son, Bradley Astbury in 2001; an infant son, Leonard Astbury and her parents. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
