MARS HILL – Laura I. Kinney, 90, died Aug. 9, 2006, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Jan. 3, 1916, in East Plantation, the daughter of Herbert and Rosie (Fogg) Brewer. Laura worked for Pat and Jim Shaw for many years on their farm cutting seed, planting, driving truck, harvesting, racking and bagging. She also had many interests such as hunting, fishing, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She is survived by two sons, Arden and his wife, Ella, of Mapleton, Roland and his wife, June, of Auburndale, Fla.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Wallace Brewer of East Plantation; a sister, Katherine Boyle of Mars Hill; several nieces and nephews; and a very special granddaughter, Colleen Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Burnes Kinney; siblings, Cecil Brewer, Mellie Brewer, Annie Brewer Tompkins, Alice Morse, Stanley Brewer, Bedford Brewer and Lemmie Brewer. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Tapley Cemetery with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Arrangements in care of Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill.
