STOCKTON SPRINGS – Laura Spurlin, 83, passed away Nov. 8, 2004 in Belfast, surrounded by her family. Laura was born on June 21, 1921, in Portage Lake, the first child of Allan Good and Annie M. (Pye) Good. She grew up in an extended family in Portage Lake and attended school in Aroostook County and New Haven Connecticut. She graduated in 1939 at Presque Isle. In the early 1940s she worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in New Haven, Conn. On her birthday in 1943 she married the love of her life Forney E. Spurlin. During their marriage they traveled extensively in the USA and Canada. Through their travels Laura and Forney made many long lifelong friends. Laura and her family spent many years in Old Mystic, Connecticut where she attended Old Mystic Methodist Church. In 1995, Laura returned to Maine moving to Stockton Springs to be near her daughter Kitty. She was a member of Sandy Point Congregational Church where she enjoyed attending services. Laura enjoyed traveling, reading, writing notes and letters to her friends and family, and caring for her family. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Anne ” Kitty” McLaughlin and her husband, Jack, of Stockton Springs, Edgar S. Spurlin and Eileen Henry of Peru, Mass., Allan Spurlin and his wife, Shirley, of Taylor, Utah, and Claudia Weller and her husband, Bruce, of Littleton, Colo.; her grandchildren, Andrea McKenna and her husband, Douglas, Carl Spurlin, Jesse Spurlin, Ellen Spurlin, Taylor Spurlin, Kevin Weller, Jason Weller and Matthew Weller; Laura is also survived by three sisters, Kathleen Currier of Oxbow, Annabel Adoff of Naples, Fla., and Helen Jaundreau of Presque Isle; two brothers, William Good and his wife, Gertrude, of Garfield Maine, and Arthur Good and his wife, Frances, of Portage Lake Maine; one brother-in-law, Jesse V. Spurlin Jr. and his wife, Frances, of Chesapeake Va.; one sister-in-law, Lillian Taylor of North Little Rock, Ark.; a former son-in-law, Alex Korenkiewicz of Lisbon, Conn.; many nieces, nephews and an extended family. Her husband, parents and one nephew, David Good, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at the Sandy Point Congregational Church with Pastor Ruth Martin officiating. A gathering of conversation and refreshments will be held after the service at the American Legion Hall. Interment will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic Connecticut.
