ELLSWORTH – Laurence F. Duran, 74, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at an Ellsworth hea-lthcare facility. He was born March 31, 1929, in Corinth, the son of Earl E. and Florence L. (Marshall) Duran. Laurence was a veteran of the Korean War, having served the U.S. Army in Korea. He worked for 30 years as a delivery driver for Sunshine Biscuit Company in Connecticut, until he retired in 1989, and moved to Ellsworth. Laurence was a regular patron at the Riverside Caf‚, often stopping in twice a day. He was a fan of NASCAR racing, and enjoyed television and reading history and war books. Laurence is survived by his partner of 15 years, Chris Lockhart of Ellsworth; her children, Debbie Carter and her husband, Brad, of Hancock, Karen Merrick and her husband, Perley, of Lamoine, Cindy Petry and her husband, Phil, of Westbrook; his former wife, Olive (Boyer) Duran of Connecticut; their children, Brian Duran and his wife, Fran, of Margate, Fla., Sharon Joseph and her husband, Jim, of New Britain, Conn.; a brother, Arnold Duran and his wife, Ella, of Portland; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, with pastor Robert Maddocks officiating. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. The family would like to invite friends to join them at a memorial reception at the funeral home following the committal at the cemetery.
