ACWORTH, Ga. – Laurence Frederick Potter, 77, beloved husband of Teresa Hamilton Potter, passed away May 5, 2006, in Acworth, Ga., after a brief illness. He was born in Bangor to Frances Schoppee Potter Tompson and the late Laurence Franklin Potter. Mr. Potter was predeceased by brother, Robert; and sister, LouAnn. He is survived by his wife, Teresa of Acworth, Ga.; mother, Mrs. Frances Thompson of Vero Beach, Fla.; daughter, Marion Frances Buwalda “Molly”; son-in-law, Kenneth R. Buwalda; and grandchildren, Joshua, Josiah and Emily Joy, all of Acworth, Ga.; sisters, Mrs. Peg Pope of Vero Beach, Fla. and JoAnn Potter of Palm Springs, Fla.; brother, Leonard S. Potter and wife, Frances, of North Palm Beach, Fla. and Eleuthera, Bahamas; niece, Kim Mayo of Vero Beach, Fla.; and two nephews, Michael Mayo and wife, Pat and son, Chase, of Lake Worth, Fla.; and Christopher Potter of Charleston, S.C. Mr. Potter enlisted in the Army in 1946 and was stationed in Japan. Upon his return to Bangor, he met and married Teresa Hamilton on Sept. 1, 1950. He was a member of the Bangor Elks Lodge No. 244, a member of the Bangor American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp and was in the Maine National Guard. He worked for Amour & Company and in 1956, Mr. and Mrs. Potter moved to Lake Worth, Fla., where he continued to be employed by Amour & Company. He also managed two Amoco Service Stations for many years in Lake Worth, Fla., and then spent the next 22 years as a pest control operator for Ringdahl Pest Control of Delray Beach, Fla., retiring at age 65. Mr. Potter, along with his wife, enjoyed their summer home in Murphy, N.C. and especially enjoyed their three month trip, by motor home, touring throughout Alaska. An open house and memorial service was held Sunday afternoon, May 7, at his daughter and son-in-law’s home in Georgia. Eulogy was given by his son-in-law, Ken, and a guitar solo tribute was performed by his 17 year old grandson, Joshua. He will long be remembered as a loving husband, great father, a terrific granddaddy and a good friend.
