EASTBROOK – Laurence M. “Bud” Ashe Jr., 79, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Eastbrook, the son of Laurence M. and Elizabeth M. (Joy) Ashe. As a young man, Bud left school and worked as an operator of heavy equipment. He enjoyed this work and became very proficient at it. Bud was very proud of the knowledge and skill he acquired as a crane operator and his mark will remain for many years on such local projects as the Jonesport-Beals Bridge, the Hancock-Sullivan Bridge, the “Silent Bridge,” and the nuclear power plant at Seabrook, N.H., among many others. Bud retired in 1989, where he remained active as a town selectman for many years and was a member of David Hooper Lodge, AF & AM in Sullivan, Greenwood Grange No. 363 in Eastbrook and the Eastbrook Baptist Church, where he was baptized in 2005. Bud had a love of farming and animals. He loved spending time with his family and friends and could often be found out enjoying breakfast with his friends and neighbors. Bud is survived by five children, Jim Ashe and his wife, Nancy, of Cumberland, Yale Ashe and his wife, Kathy, of Surry, Sharon Seavey and her husband, Donald, of Eastbrook, Brenda Carney and John Patten of Eastbrook and Beverly Jordan of Eastbrook; two sisters, Catherine Bragdon and her husband, Ken, of Lamoine and Joyce Harding and her husband, Richard, of Lamoine; 10 grandchildren, Whitney and Jasmine Ashe, Amanda and William Ashe, Renee Lincoln and her husband, Richard, Katie Seavey, Ashley Ryan, Blake Carney, and Travis and Shane Jordan; very special friends, Stephen Zadravecz and Joanne Spizio, and Carolyn Yeo, all of Eastbrook and Steve Fernald of Franklin; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Louise F. (Cottle) Ashe; a sister, Betty Harding; and a special friend, Willard M. Kelley Jr., whom Bud thought the world of. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Bob Maddocks officiating. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery, Eastbrook.
