SWANVILLE – Lavon Ellis, 83, of Swanville, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at a local healthcare facility. She was born in Waldo on June 4, 1921, the daughter of Hugh and Clare (Braley) Buzzell. Together with her late husband, Charles, they raised four children of their own and a favorite niece for many years. Lavon was a seventh degree Grange member, extension clothing leader for nine years, and secretary of the Swan Lake Association for six years. She served as member, superintendent finance director, and teacher, of the Swanville Union Church. Lavon also ran the kitchen at the Nickerson School for two years, and was the Swanville tax collector for 25 years and was on the Board of Directors of Tax Collectors and Treasurer’s Association for nine years helping design the current excise laws of that time. She traveled extensively before and after marriage. There were only six continental states that she hadn’t lived in or traveled through. Many will remember her unique penmanship and original crafts. Lavon is survived by her children, Randall and wife, Hazel, Scott and wife, Shirley, Lyndell and Terrell Ellis; her niece, Laurie Allen; brothers, Thomas Buzzell and wife, Barbara, Edward Buzzell, and Avon Buzzell and wife, Ursel; sister, Elizabeth Gale; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all having spent summers or vacations with the Ellises. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Swanville Community Church with Pastor Don Daniels officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Swanville.
