BREWER – Lawrence E. Stanwood Jr., 79, husband of Juanita (Ray) Stanwood, died Oct. 21, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 10, 1928, in Steuben, the son of Lawrence E. and Caroline G. (Whitten) Stanwood Sr. Lawrence graduated from Steuben High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1946 and, as a corporal, served as a switchboard operator mostly in Japan. He received a World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupational Medal with Germany clasp and airlift device. Lawrence worked for Arthur Chapin, wholesale grocer, Bangor, and for Motor Truck and Trailer, later Ryder, as a mechanic before retiring. Lawrence was a member of Pleiades Lodge No. 173 AF & AM, Milbridge, for more than 50 years and more recently Narraguagus Lodge No. 88, AF & AM, Cherryfield. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and deer hunting every November with his friend, Prid Dowling of Harrington. Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years of Brewer, are one daughter, Christine Corro and her husband, Wilbert Jr., of Old Town; one granddaughter, Michelle Cummings and her husband, Joel, of Auburn; two great-granddaughters, Kayla and Jordan Cummings; one sister, Loretta Mayhew and her husband, Carl, of Cherryfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Eula (Stanwood) Crowley. A graveside service with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge, with officers and members of the Narraguagus Lodge, officiating.
