ELLSWORTH – Lawrence “Larry” Farrell, 79, died unexpectedly, Friday, May 20, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 29, 1926, in New York City, N.Y., the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Harney) Farrell. Larry was a veteran of World War II, during which time he served in the U.S. Navy. He was recipient of the American Theatre Medal, the Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal. After the war, Larry drove a bus for the New York Transit Authority for more than 20 years, retiring to Maine in 1977. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 109 in Ellsworth, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Golden Age Society, and was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 1036 of Ellsworth. Larry was known locally for his cooking abilities at benefit dinners and fund raisers. He will be missed by all who knew him. Larry is survived by four children, David Farrell and his wife, Marion of Middletown, N.Y., Ruth Farrell of Ellsworth, Carl Farrell of Ellsworth and Owen Farrell of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Bridgette Schmidt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ells-worth, with the Rev. Scott Mower, pastor, presider. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Ellsworth.
