PENOBSCOT – Leighton S. Perkins Sr., 89, died Sept. 10, 2005, at a Penobscot nursing facility. He was born June 1, 1916, in Penobscot, the son of Arthur W. and Grace (Bowden) Perkins. Leighton worked for many years as a Woods Foreman in the Timberland Department of St. Regis Paper Company. He was a member of the Rising Star Masonic Lodge, Penobscot and the Order of Eastern Star Riverside Chapter. He is survived by two children, Joyce Stevens and husband, Richard, of Searsport, Leighton Perkins Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Presque Isle; sister, Carrie Saunders of Blue Hill; brother, Fletcher Perkins of Candia, N.H.; grandchildren, Michael Stevens of Elgin, Ill., Leigh-Ann and Mark Whitten of Port Orchard, Wash., Shari and Alec Dodd of Norfolk, Va.; great-grandchildren, Emily, Jeffrey, Amanda, Melanie, Erin, Meaghan, Jordan. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene (McNelley) Perkins, Sept. 2, 1998. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with the Rev. James Robertson officiating. Interment will be in Bayside Cemetery, Penobscot. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Maine Affiliate Inc., P.O. Box 2208, Augusta, ME 04338-2208.
