BANGOR and HAMPDEN – Leland Delmar McLaughlin Sr., 72, husband of the late, Dorothy (Wilson) McLaughlin, passed away unexpectedly, Feb. 11, 2005, at his home in Bangor. He was born April 15, 1932, in Monticello, the son of William C. and Hazel (Foster) McLaughlin. Leland served in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War. Following the service he became a millwright mechanic for the Steelworkers Union Local No. 547, where he was a longtime heavy equipment mechanic. He had lived in New Jersey for many years before retiring back to Maine. He enjoyed gardening and working around his home. Leland enjoyed animals and will be missed by his faithful companion, Shadow. Leland was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy, in 2000; and by his two sons, Leland D. McLaughlin Jr., and Tommy McLaughlin. He is survived by a special sister-in-law, Arlene Mayo; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held noon Wednesday, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, with the Rev. Dick Woehr, officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday, until time of service at noon, at Hampden-Gilpatrick. Interment in the springtime will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
