SULLIVAN – Leland L. Griffin, 78, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Sullivan, the son of Alvah P. and Mary E. (Norton) Griffin. Leland was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the European Theatre and took part in the invasion at Normandy Beach. He was employed for many years as a driver for North American Van Lines and he loved running errands for anyone who needed anything. Leland is survived by six children, Marie Milne and her husband, Leighton, of Sullivan, Leland Griffin and his wife, Lori, of Lake St. George, JoAnn Coffin and her husband, Walter, or Hancock, Joyce Levesque and her husband, Rand, of Sullivan, Bonnie Mueller of Fitchburg, Mass., and Carol Kear of Stockton, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Morris Griffin of Franklin; a sister, Helen Stevens of Brewer; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by a special niece, Mary Ellen Carter, and special friend, Angela Whalen. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Simpson Cemetery, Sullivan. Cremation arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
