MOUNT DORA, Fla. – Leon Drew Lefler, 75 of Mount Dora, Fla., succumbed after a two-year battle with brain cancer on Friday, July 30, 2004. He was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Miami, Fla., to the late Albert B. Lefler and Carrie E. (Drew) Lefler. After his graduation from Andrew Jackson High School, Mr. Lefler served in the Air Force. He also was a graduate of Wake Forest College in North Carolina. He began a 26 year career in insurance as a claim adjuster and special agent in North Carolina, Virginia, and Miami, Fla., where he owned his own insurance agency. He enjoyed volunteering as a Cub Scout Leader and a Boy Scout Master. In 1981, he moved to the Mount Dora, Fla. region, and started a second career as a tile setter and a Lake County Fire Fighter until his retirement. He is survived by his son, William Drew Lefler of North Florida; lifelong companion, Jean Lefler of Mount Dora, Fla.; special friend, Lorraine Robertson of Melbourne, Fla.; his many cousins in Maine, including the Drews, Libbys, Chases and Gwen and Horace Getchell. Interment will be in Glenburn Cemetery at a date to be determined later. Arrangements by Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, Mount Dora, Fla.
