SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Leon W. Pierce Jr., 81, passed away May 14, 2008, at a Mount Desert Island hospital. He was born May 22, 1926, in Tremont, the son of Leon W. and Letha M. (Bartlett) Pierce Sr. Leon was a lifelong fisherman and loved it to the end. He also enjoyed traveling and saw every state in the union, but two. He served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Condon) Pierce; a son, Keith Pierce and wife, Virginia, all of Southwest Harbor; a daughter, Rhonda Fortin and husband, Mark, of Cumberland Center; a sister, Trudy Walton; three stepchildren, Timothy Bergeron, of California, Amy Murphy of Tremont and Dale Bergeron of Bradford; five grandchildren, Ramona, Rebecca and Benjamin Pierce, David and Nicholas Fortin; four stepgrandchildren, Paige and Parker Murphy and Jacquie and Andrew Bergeron; two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Braeden; and a special cousin, Clarence Bartlett of Texas. Leon was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Ramona; two sisters, Marion Hodgkins and Grace Walton; and a brother, Richard Pierce. Friends and family are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. Those who desire may make contributions in Leon’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
