ORONO and OLD TOWN – Leona M. Peterson, 89, died peacefully Jan. 19, 2005, at an Orono healthcare facility. She was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Connor a daughter of Octave and Henrietta (Dumais) Belanger. She was a member of the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church now Holy Family Parish. She is survived by daughters, Janice Fournier and her fianc?, Dick Cote, of Old Town, and Beverly Swenson and her husband, Michael, of Orono; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Blanche Murphy of Bangor; son-in-law, David Mayo of Anson; sister-in-law, Anita Belanger of Caribou; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Elbridge E. Peterson; a daughter, Lorraine Mayo; six brothers, Albenie, Oscar, Henry, Ovila, Leonard and Eddie Belanger; and four sisters, Phoebie Belanger, Lydia Raymond, Imelda Blanchette, and Priscilla Melanfant. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jen Roy and Pam Dill of Young’s Elderly Care of Old Town, the Orono Commons Alzheimer’s Unit, and Fr. Normand Richard and Fr. Joseph Khoury for their continued prayers and Octave Raymond for bring her weekly communion. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Parish, Old Town with the Rev. Normand Richard, celebrant. Spring interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town.
