BANGOR – Leonard W. Spencer Sr., 81, died Aug. 5 2003, at a Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor. He was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Bangor, the son of John F. and Josephine (Thompson) Spencer. Leonard was an artisan in his hobby of woodworking and crafts of all kinds. He loved to travel and spent winters in Florida. Leonard was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be remembered by all that knew him and his sense of humor. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Madeline (Wooster) Spencer of Bangor; two sons, Leonard W. Spencer Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Denver, Pa., and Donald J. Spencer and his wife, Gail, of Leesport, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Nathan, and Kevin Martin, Leonard W. Spencer III, Kelly Fasnacht, Eric Tableman, Emily, Shawn, and Kimberly Spencer; two great-grandchildren; eight surviving brothers and sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; one aunt, Priscilla Conley of Bangor. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one daughter, Sandra Martin; one grandson, David Martin; and three sisters. A service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Friday Aug. 8, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
