BANGOR – Leonidas Peter Jonason Sr., 76, husband of Marilyn (Kelley) Jonason, died May 12, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Bangor, the son of Peter A. and Maude (Sanborn) Jonason. Leo graduated from Bangor High School in 1948 and earned a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Maine in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and also served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was employed by Westinghouse Corporation in their atomic power division in Pittsburgh, Pa. He later was branch manager for Litton Industries in Bangor. He served as the first administrator of CA Dean Hospital in Greenville and was CEO of Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln. He retired and he and Lynn owned and operated Jonason’s Green Lake Store, until he suffered a stroke. Leo was a member of numerous professional and service organizations. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lynn; a son, Leonidas P. Jonason Jr. and wife, Susan, of Bangor; daughters, Karen J. Valesko and husband, Tom, of Seneca Castle, N.Y., Anne J. Tidd of Bangor, Kelley Jonason-Noel and husband, Derek, of Anaheim, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Andrew and Amy Tidd, Darius and Isabelle Jonason, Adam and Amanda Boody, Ethan and Karilyn Valesko; great-granddaughter, Arabella English; a sister, Anna Willey of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Peter and his wife, Aileen. Private interment will be in the family lot at Mount Hope Cemetery. An informal gathering for family and friends will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Bangor House. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bingo Fund, Maine Veterans’ Home, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements by Foley Funeral Service.
