CARMEL and NEWBURGH – Leonora Jean Butterfield, 71, passed away Feb. 28, 2006, at her home in Carmel after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 5, 1935, in Kingfield, the daughter of Fred and Bernice (Horn) Crocker. Leonora was a loving and devoted mother and Jean’s fight against cancer showed this dedication to her family, she truly lived for them. She always looked forward to Fridays, to do her banking for her children. Leonora had worked at Dysart’s Travel Stop in Newburgh (formerly Butterfield’s Store) for many years, where she was very well known. She enjoyed working at the store and the customers, many people would stop by just to see “Gram” as she was fondly called. Leonora was a kind-hearted lady who would do anything for anyone if she could. She also enjoyed NASCAR but most of all she loved her time spent with her beloved family. She is survived by her children, Larry Dawes of Jackman, Malcolm Butterfield and his wife, Lynn, of Newburgh, Sherry Wardwell and her husband, Dana, of Orrington and Michael Butterfield and his wife, Wendy, of Newburgh; one brother, Hubert Crocker and his wife, Lyma, of Bangor; three sisters, Myra Burgess of Old Town, Ferne Petley and her husband, Ronald, of Anson and Leah Churchill of Madison; grandchildren, Robert Porter, Robin Howes, Terrance and Michael Leavitt, Corey Butterfield, Casey, Ashlie and Allison Butterfield and Sarah and Nathan Wardwell; great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, David Butterfield in 1991; a grandson, Jeremy Butterfield in 1995; by her parents, brothers, Malcolm, Leland, Leyton, Wendell and Charles Crocker; and a sister, Madeline Crocker. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Pittsfield Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Route 100, Pittsfield. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Leonora Jean Butterfield Memorial Cancer Fund, care of St. Joseph Healthcare, P.O. Box 1638, Bangor, ME 04402-1638. Interment, in the springtime, will be in Knowlton Cemetery, Newburgh. Arrangements entrusted to the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
