MILFORD – Leroy “Jack” Joseph Melanson, 80, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family Feb. 28, 2006, at the Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Jan. 6, 1926, son of Eva (Stoddard) Melanson and Joseph Melanson. Jack was a veteran of World War II, serving his country with the Army stationed in Europe. He was a member of VFW Post No. 3381 of Old Town. His working years were spent as a self-employed logger in the Maine woods. Jack was an avid sportsman, spending his summers fishing on East Grand Lake and his winters rabbit hunting with his prized beagles. He enjoyed many years at his camp on East Grand Lake sharing time with his family and friends. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Norma (Nason) Melanson; and four children, Brenda and her husband, Ron Cote, of Bradley, Allan and his wife, Mary Melanson, of LaGrange, Muriel and her husband, John Torrey, of Milford and Kim and her husband, Kevin Fredette, of Nashua, N.H. Jack cherished his time, especially in his later years, with his 11 grandchildren, Julie, Wendy, Jason, Aimee, Kelly, Megan, Heidi, Jack, Michael, Lauren and Lindsey; and his 15 great-grandchildren. Jack is also survived by brother, Noah Melanson of Connecticut; sisters, Barbara Grass of Lambert Lake, Helen Ryder and Gloria McDonald, both of Connecticut. Jack was predeceased by his parents, his loving grandson, Jack Melanson; sisters, Jenny Landry and Muriel Melanson; brothers, Joseph Melanson, Robert Melanson, Carole Melanson and William Ryder. Friends may call noon-1 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to Home Health and Hospice of St. Joseph’s, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.
