HERMON – Leroy Merton Witherly, 79, passed away Nov. 10, 2005, at home with his loving family and faithful dog, Turkey, with him. He was born July 1, 1926, in Hermon, a son of George W. and Blanche (Clark) Witherly. Leroy proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post No. 1761. He worked for more than 40 years at Eastern Fine Paper Company retiring in 1988. On Oct. 26, 1947, he married Elinor M. Wiles and they had six children. Leroy enjoyed building and tending the campfire during the many fishing and camping trips taken with family and friends. He was an avid collector of bells and had over 800 in his collection. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Elinor; he is survived by five daughters and their spouses, Brenda Badger of Ohio, Blanche and Herbert Heal of Kenduskeag, Deborah and Ralph Millette of Hudson, Vivian and Charles Wescott of Orland, Cheryl and Robert Eldridge of Hermon; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Witherly and friend, Eddie Smith, of Carmel; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Leroy was predeceased by a son, George L. Witherly; his parents, three brothers, Paul, Lloyd and Elwin; three sisters, Annie, Helen and Estelle. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, at Foley Funeral Home, 299 Union St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor of Hermon Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon.
