ORLAND – Leslie “Bing” J. Gilbert Sr., 73, beloved husband of Carol A. (Field) Gilbert, died peacefully Dec. 24, 2005, at his home in Orland surrounded by his loving family. Leslie attended school in Bucksport, was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Burton, Goode, Sargent Maine Korean War Veterans, where he worked very hard to help get the Maine Korean War Memorial built in Bangor. Mr. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Carol (Field) Gilbert of Orland; one son, Leslie J. Gilbert Jr. and his wife, Mary, of California; seven daughters, Carlyn Gallagher and her husband, Tom, of Arizona, Doris Gilbert, Renee Chavez and her husband, Roy, Denise Gilbert, Debra Gilbert, all of California, Dolores “Lori” Foster and her husband, Wayne, of Clifton, Lesley Blair and her husband, Stephen, of Bucksport; his father-in-law, Russell Field of Auburn; two brothers-in-law, Russell Field and his wife, Sharyn, of Orland and Wayne Grindle and his wife, Anita, of Connecticut; 25 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be remembered by his longtime friend, Vaughn Rogerson; and his devoted dog, Sam. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris (Bailey) Gilbert; two brothers, Raymond and Dennis Gilbert; and his sister, Mary Tupper. Graveside services with full military honors will be held in the spring, at the Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport.
