PALMYRA – Lester A. Robinson, 84, died May 3, 2004, at a Pittsfield healthcare facility after a long illness. He was born Dec. 24, 1919, in St. Albans, the son of James W. and Ruth (Deering) Robinson. He was educated in schools of Palmyra, and a graduate of Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield. Lester lived and worked in Hanover, Mass., for many years. While in Massachusetts, he worked as a bookkeeper at Harvard University for 10 years. He also worked at the Hanover Water Co., Etna Engineering and Marine Campus. He moved his family back to Palmyra in the early 1960’s and worked at Brown’s Clothing in Pittsfield, until he took a position as bookkeeper for Pittsfield Coal and Oil and continued there for many years until his retirement. Lester was a member of the North Hanover Vol. Fire Dept. for many years. He was an active member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 195 of Hartland, a member of Anah Shrine of Bangor, and several other Masonic organizations. Lester served on the MSAD No. 48 school board for several years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy (Reed) Robinson of Palmyra; two sons and their wives, Frank and Paulette Robinson of Palmyra, David and Carole Robinson of Detroit; one daughter and her husband, Diane and Kendal Davis of Etna; one brother, Willis Robinson of East Boston, Mass.; one sister, Priscilla Austin of Lancaster, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His sister, Genevieve, predeceased him. Masonic graveside funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, at the Palmyra Village Cemetery, Palmyra, with the officers and members of Corinthian Masonic Lodge officiating.
