WINTERPORT – Lester E. Mayhew Sr., 73, the husband of Lila M. (Smith) Mayhew, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, March 25, 2005, at his home in Winterport. Lester was born March 28, 1931, in Winterport, the son of Charles E. and Adelaide (Chick) Mayhew. Lester was a lifelong resident of Winterport and a hard worker, who dedicated his life to providing and caring for his family. He had owned Mayhew and Son Rubbish Removal business for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Lila of Winterport; six sons, Lester E. Mayhew Jr. of Winterport, Leroy D. Mayhew and his wife, Geraldine, of Winterport, Leonard A. Mayhew and his wife, Terrie, of Trenton, Lewis E. Mayhew of Tennessee, Leo D. Mayhew and his wife, Rhoda, of Winterport and Larry D. Mayhew and his wife, Annette, of Glenburn; and a special grandson, whom Lester and Lila raised, Charles Edward Mayhew of Tennessee; grandchildren, Lisa Marie Mayhew, Vernus Mayhew, Albert Sanford, Raymond Mayhew, Brian Mayhew, Shannon Moretto, Margaret L. Anderson, Daniel Mayhew, several great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Dottie Antepara of Michigan, Kenneth Heath of Fairfield, Barbara Mosher of Las Vegas Nev., Inez Jewell of Holden, Elena Phillips of Bangor and Helen Parker of Panama City, Fla., and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson, Douglas Mayhew in 2001; and by two brothers and one sister. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Calvary Apostolic Church, 1240 North Main St., Winterport, with the Rev. Kyle Stoops, pastor officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. In lieu of flowers, contributions in support of the family may be made care of the Calvary Apostolic Church, P.O.
