LITTLE DEER ISLE – Lewis Edwin Eaton, 65, died unexpectedly while shopping in Ellsworth Mon-day, Dec. 6, 2004. He was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Little Deer Isle, the son of Cecil W. and Geneva M. (Eaton) Eaton. Lewis was a graduate of Deer Isle High School, Class of 1958. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, serving two years at Topsham A.F.B., and two years at Ramie A.F.B. in Puerto Rico. Lewis was a priest in the R.L.D.S. Church, where he was also active as a youth leader. He was also a leader for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Lewis enjoyed playing the Dobro in the Bluegrass Band, performing at nursing homes and benefits. He also enjoyed Square Dancing, clogging, round dancing, and living on the ocean. Lewis loved his family, and spent much time with them traveling and camping. He was especially fond of his grandchildren, and was looking forward to the arrival of another in June. Lewis was a lobster fisherman for several summers, and is known by many through his building business of 37 years, Lewis E. Eaton & Son, Inc. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judith A. (Grindle) Eaton of Little Deer Isle; three children, Sonia Bunt and her husband, Bobby, Travis Eaton and his wife, Angel, of Little Deer Isle and Hope Eaton of Bangor; three grandchildren, Jeffrey and April Bunt, and Rylee Reid Eaton; five brothers, Fuller Eaton and his wife, Nornine, Edgar Eaton and his wife, Eleanor, Burlyn Eaton and his wife, Janet, all of Deer Isle, Wendell Eaton and his wife, Janet of Shelburne Falls, Mass., and Marvin Eaton and his wife, Kathie, of Windham; a stepsister, Beatrice Earl and her husband, Harry, of Rockland; his mother-in-law, Tillie Grindle of Little Deer Isle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lewis will also be missed by his pets, Cooper and Maggie. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main Street, Stonington. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at the North Deer Isle Community of Christ Church, North Deer Isle Road, Deer Isle, with Elders Dowe Eaton and Neville Eaton officiating.
