BAR HARBOR and LAMOINE Lewis Reginald Hersey Sr., 94, died Nov. 22, 2007, at an Ells-worth health care facility. He was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Bar Harbor, son of George W. and Floy Addie (Hollis) Hersey Sr. Lewis was a graduate of Bar Harbor High School. He married Martha M. Hardison in 1939. Lewis worked as a constable for the town of Bar Harbor and worked with his father, George W. Hersey Sr. and with his half brother, Lawrence Hall. Later he worked as a carpenter for H.A. Woodworth, Milton Hodgkins and R.L. White. He was a gifted carpenter and painter. Lewis was a wonderful man with many special qualities. He was very thoughtful, polite, kind and caring, with a wonderful sense of humor. He treated everyone with courtesy and respect. He was a devoted husband to Martha. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a Bar Harbor history buff and was fascinated by the past, antique cars and trucks. Lewis was an avid reader and he loved to write short stories. He was a member of St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, Bar Harbor. Lewis is survived by three sons, Lewis Hersey Jr. and wife, Elaine, of Ladylake, Fla., Robert Hersey and wife, Carole, of Wellington, Fla., and Salisbury Cove and William Hersey and wife, Sue, of Bar Harbor; two daughters, Joanne Wilson of Georgetown and Trudy and husband, William M. Curran, of Lamoine; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Martha M. Hersey, Oct. 24, 2007; a son, Richard Hersey, July 8, 2007; brothers, George W. Hersey Jr. and Lawrence V. Hall Sr.; and a sister, Floy A. Fendel. According to his wishes, the family will have a private celebration of his life.
